An Excellent Value in a Mama Bear Chair,
For my expectant wife, we purchased the Dutailier Ultramotion Harvest Sleigh Multiposition and Recliner and a matching ottoman about a month ago for a total cost of over $650. It is a great chair and made in Canada with thick cushions, adjustable reclining back, glide lock, and smooth gliding action, and my wife loved it. But it’s not exactly cheap.
Since we are expecting twins, another chair for me seemed like a prudent idea, but I wasn’t anxious to spend that amount again, so I ordered this cheaper model for myself (call me the Mama Bear for the purposes of this comparison). It was on sale for about a third of the price we had paid for my wife’s chair. It is also a solid chair, but made in Viet Nam with thinner cushions and no back adjustment or glide lock, but with the same smooth gliding action, and I love it.
So what is the trade-off for the bargain price? A bit more work for assembly, mostly for attaching the arms. Thinner cushions. Made in southeast Asia instead of North America.
As for the size, my wife’s chair is a generous 19″ wide between the arms, but mine is only 16″ wide. The seats in both chairs are an ample 20″ deep. I’m 205# with a 41″ waist and my chair fits me okay and it mostly fits my wife okay as well. On the other hand, Mama-in-law bear is a bit more generously cut than we are and can only get into my wife’s larger chair.
I really enjoy the gliding action of these chairs with the synchronized gliding ottomans vs a standard rocking chair. And, I really enjoy the $400 still in my pocket that I didn’t have to spend for the second chair.

|Way too small,
Once we assembled this glider, we could barely fit in it. Let me say also, that my husband and I are not big people either, so if you are taller than average or even slightly wide in the hip area, I would NOT recommend this chair. The side flaps come off every time you try to stand up, which is a pain. I would return this in a second, except Amazon’s return policy states it is only returnable if unopened and in its original packaging. Well, obviously it’s not since we needed to open the package to piece it together. Waste of money.

|Not that small and quite comfortable,
First let me say that I don’t own this chair yet, however after sitting in a couple dozen chairs at different stores, this is the most comfortable chair for a reasonable price. So many of these glider chairs are extremely expensive, and even then the ottoman is $100-200 and sold separately. Worse, many of the more expensive chairs were far less comfortable in the seat and/or back areas. Only when you get into the $600+ range do you start to find chairs that are more comfortable than this one.
I am a bit overweight (I wear 38″ waist pants) and felt quite comfortable in it. It will not be for large people but for the average person I cannot imagine it would be too small.
I will come back and update my review after I’ve owned the chair for a little while.
